Activity Log

Track module configuration changes and administrative history

Activity Log

The Activity tab displays a history of administrative actions performed on this module's configuration. It helps you understand when and how the module was modified.

Accessing the Activity Tab

  1. Go to Settings > Modules
  2. Select your module
  3. Click the Activity tab

What the Activity Tab Shows

The Activity tab provides a timeline of module-level administrative events:

Module Lifecycle Events

EventDescription
CreatedWhen the module was first added to the workspace
Last UpdatedMost recent modification to module configuration
PublishedWhen module changes were published live

Displayed Information

For each event, you'll see:

  • Event label (e.g., "Created", "Last updated")
  • Timestamp showing when it occurred
  • Description providing context about the event

Module vs. Record Activity

It's important to distinguish between two types of activity:

Module Activity (This Tab)

Administrative changes to the module itself:

  • Adding or removing fields
  • Changing views
  • Updating permissions
  • Publishing the module

Record Activity (Per Record)

Changes to individual records are tracked separately on each record's activity feed:

  • Field value changes
  • Comments added
  • Files attached
  • Status updates

Record activity is configured via field tracking settings and viewed on individual record pages.

Reading the Timeline

The Activity tab displays events chronologically, with the most recent at the top:

Last updated
Module marked as Published.
Timestamp: Dec 15, 2024, 3:42 PM

Created
Module added to workspace.
Timestamp: Nov 1, 2024, 10:15 AM

Status Context

The activity timeline references the module's current status:

StatusMeaning

PublishedModule is live and synced

Audit Trail Integration

For comprehensive audit logging, the Activity tab integrates with Coherence's audit service when enabled:

  • Detailed change tracking
  • User attribution for changes
  • Field-level modification history
  • Export capabilities for compliance

Extended audit trail features depend on your workspace plan and backend configuration. Contact your administrator for availability.

Common Use Cases

Troubleshooting Configuration Issues

If something isn't working as expected:

  1. Check the Activity tab for recent changes
  2. Identify when the issue started
  3. Review what was modified around that time
  4. Revert changes if necessary

Compliance and Governance

For regulated industries:

  • Document when modules were created
  • Track configuration change history
  • Verify who made administrative changes
  • Export audit logs for compliance records

Team Coordination

When multiple administrators work on modules:

  • See who last modified the module
  • Understand the timeline of changes
  • Coordinate configuration updates

Activity for Record Tracking

While the Activity tab focuses on module configuration, you can configure activity tracking for records through:

Field Change Tracking

Configure which field changes are logged on records:

  • Enable tracking per field
  • Choose whether to track all changes or specific events

Email Linking

Connect email activity to records:

  • Auto-link emails to related records
  • Track email opens and replies (if enabled)

Comments

Enable commenting on records:

  • Team members can add notes
  • Comments appear in the record timeline
  • @ mentions notify team members

These settings are configured in the Fields tab and through workspace settings, not the Activity tab itself.

Best Practices

Regular Review

Periodically review the Activity tab to:

  • Ensure changes are intentional
  • Catch unauthorized modifications
  • Understand module evolution over time

Document Major Changes

When making significant module changes:

  • Note the purpose of changes
  • Communicate changes to team
  • Use the Activity tab to verify changes applied

Coordinate with Team

If multiple administrators manage modules:

  • Communicate before making changes
  • Use Activity tab to avoid conflicts
  • Review others' changes regularly

Limitations

Current Scope

The Activity tab currently shows:

  • Basic lifecycle events (created, updated)
  • Status changes
  • Timestamp information

Future Enhancements

Extended audit capabilities will include:

  • Detailed field change history
  • User attribution for all changes
  • Filterable activity streams
  • Export functionality

These features are dependent on the audit service integration and your workspace plan.
