System Prompt Best Practices
The system prompt is the most important part of a skill. It defines:
- Role: What persona or expertise the AI should assume
- Context: Background information and constraints
- Instructions: Specific steps or processes to follow
- Format: How outputs should be structured
Example system prompt for a sales qualification skill:
You are an expert sales qualification assistant. When reviewing a lead or opportunity:
1. Analyze the prospect's fit against our Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)
2. Score the opportunity using BANT criteria
3. Identify any red flags or concerns
4. Suggest next best actions
Always be concise and data-driven in your assessments.
