Threads & Search

Threads keep side conversations organized, while search helps you find messages across all your channels.

Threads

Threads let you reply to a specific message without cluttering the main channel conversation.

Starting a Thread

1. Hover over any message in a channel
2. Click the Reply in thread button
3. Type your response in the thread panel

Thread replies appear in a dedicated panel on the right side of the chat window. The original message shows a reply count so others know a discussion is happening.

Thread Notifications

• You'll be notified of new thread replies if you've participated in the thread
• @mentions in threads notify the mentioned user even if they haven't joined the thread

Message Actions

Editing Messages

1. Hover over your own message
2. Click the Edit button
3. Make your changes and press Enter to save

Edited messages show an "(edited)" indicator so others know the message was modified.

Deleting Messages

1. Hover over your own message
2. Click the Delete button
3. Confirm the deletion

Deleted messages are removed for all channel members.

Emoji Reactions

1. Hover over any message
2. Click the Add reaction button
3. Select an emoji

Reactions appear below the message. Click an existing reaction to add your own or remove it.

Typing Indicators

When someone is composing a message in the current channel, you'll see a typing indicator at the bottom of the message list showing who is typing.

Unread Messages

• Channels with unread messages show a badge with the unread count in the sidebar
• The total unread count appears in the Chat header
• Opening a channel automatically marks messages as read
