AI Agents in Chat
Chat with AI agents that can query data, create records, and more
AI agents in Coherence are more than chatbots. They can access your workspace data, create records, and respond with interactive UI components.
@Mentioning Agents
You can @mention any AI agent in a channel to get a response. The agent will see the context of the conversation and reply in the thread or channel.
How It Works
- Type
@followed by the agent's name in any channel - Send your message
- The agent processes your request and responds
Agents respond with rich, interactive content — not just plain text.
Agent Tool Use
AI agents can use tools to interact with your workspace:

Interactive UI Components
When agents respond, they can include interactive elements:
- Record lists showing matching results with clickable links
- Record cards with key field details
- Action buttons to take quick follow-up actions
- Data tables with sortable columns
These components render directly in the chat message, making it easy to act on agent responses without navigating away.
Agent DM Channels
For private 1:1 conversations with an AI agent, use Agent DM channels.
Starting an Agent DM
- Click on an agent in the chat sidebar under "AI Agents"
- A dedicated DM channel opens between you and the agent
- Ask questions, request data, or have the agent perform actions
Agent DMs are private — only you and the agent can see the conversation.
Configuring Agents
Workspace admins can configure which AI agents are available in chat:
- Agent name and avatar for easy identification
- System instructions that define the agent's personality and behavior
- Tool permissions controlling which actions the agent can perform
- Channel access determining which channels the agent can participate in
